Heart and Sole "Fun" Run

So, today was the Portneuf Medical Center Heart and Sole Fun Run. I think they put the "fun" in the title for a little reverse psychology! There were a TON of people there. About 131 did the 5K run! 61 did the 10K run. The experience was fun. It made me want to check out the half marathon course before I sign up for it though. This course had a lot of hills in it. I have only done 1 1/2 miles of hill training, so it was a workout. The whole last mile and a half was up hill.

As I hobbled to the finish line, I saw two people from church. Then, much to my delight, my family was waiting for me as I crossed the line. It was so wonderful to have them there. I look like I am in major pain in this picture!

I finished the 10K (6.2 miles) in 59:19! I am tickled to bits and pieces with that not only b/c of the hills, but b/c my personal best for 6 miles on the treadmill at home was 65 min. In my age group, I placed 9th out of 16. Of the 61 people who ran the 10K, I came in 39th! I am pretty excited.

Here, the kids pose with me shortly after I crossed the finish line. Do you all notice that Garrett is starting to make me look like a dwarf? He is shooting up like a weed! Olivia too, for that matter. Before I know it, they will both be taller than me!

New Grill for Dad...

For a few years now, I have wanted Matt to have a new grill. He keeps telling me that, though our current one is not pretty, it does the job. It grills the meat, we don't need a new one.

So...this year, for Father's Day, I purposed to get him a new grill. I got a gift card to Lowe's so that he couldn't say, "no." We put him in the passenger seat of the van and tried to "lose him." We drove around and around, but he knows this town well enough that he never got "lost." So, I pulled in to the parking lot at Lowe's, the kids and I walked him to the grills, took off the blindfold and gave him his card with the gift card in it.

We wanted to get him one that had already been assembled, but it wouldn't fit in the back of the van. So, we had to bring it home in a box. While I was at work today, he and the kids put the new one together.

I had prepared some steaks with a "rub" that I found in my Martha Stewart magazine. Matt broke in his new grill. The steaks were delicious, and he is one happy man. He is such a wonderful, thoughtful, caring, loving husband, and dad. He is my best friend and a gift from God. I am so blessed to have THIS man! This man who supports our home schooling efforts, who works weird hours in order to let me stay home and do what I have always wanted to do...be a stay at home mom. He is so loving toward the kids and me. I love him with all of my heart! Happy Father's Day, Matt! We love you!

This week's cakes...

This week, our church had a baby shower for my friend, Liz. Liz just had her 5th child! She and I share a birthday and have had a tradition of going out to dinner for our birthday. It has been a blessing getting to know her. Anyway, I did this Winnie the Pooh and Piglet cake for her son, Daniel's, baby shower.

A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from a lady that has done my hair in the past. She had a client that needed a wedding cake. I told her that I would do it, but I don't do tiered cakes, yet... Anyway, this is what I did for her today. The round cake will have silver initials of the bride and groom on it tomorrow. I thought that they turned out alright. The colors were hot pink and black. She asked me to do hot pink and black polka dots on the sides. It was very colorful.

Twelve Miles

I ran twelve miles yesterday. I did it yesterday rather than today because I made a "wedding cake" today. I decided that running twelve miles, making a cake, and having "Emerald City Citizen" practice would be too much for one day. Anyway, I did the run in 2 hours, 18 min. and 30 seconds. I felt good for the most part. I was sore when I finished. There is nothing like a nice, hot bubble bath after a long run like that! :) This will be my last long run for a while as I have the 10K run next weekend. I will re-start training for the 1/2 marathon the beginning of July. Thanks for your interest.
