E-L-E-V-E-N

So, yesterday, I ran eleven miles! It was amazing! It took me 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 25 seconds. I actually did really well. I started to get tired right about 10 miles, so I just lowered my pace for the last mile. Next week I am aiming for 11.5, though I might challenge myself to do 12. The following week, I will be doing a 10K fun run, so that should be a neat experience.

Speed Racer Cake

My neighbor, Evie, ordered a birthday cake for her grandson, Dillon.
Dillon is 9 this year; hard to believe b/c I remember when his parents brought him to Evie's house for the first time when he was a few days old. Anyway...he isn't having a themed party this year, he just wanted his mom to take him and a friend to see "Speed Racer." So, I decided to try to copy a car from the movie. I printed a coloring page off of the internet, placed wax paper over it and copied it in icing. I was pretty happy with the end result. Dillon really like it too. He requested chocolate frosting. I did a chocolate buttercream. Let me tell you what...it was like eating a whipped chocolate truffle. I thought about inviting myself to the party so I could have a piece of cake! :)

Home School BBQ

On Thursday,
the home school
group had an "End of the Year" BBQ for the kids. This was to celebrate their great accomplishments. We all pitched in to rent a Jump house. There was volleyball and badmitton, and a lot of wonderful food. The fellowship was wonderful too. We have really enjoyed getting to know the other home school families in our area. Garrett and Olivia look forward to the events that we have with the home school group and of course they love the "skate day" once a month at the local skating rink.

This has been the best year yet of home school. The kids have done a a wonderful year and I am very proud of all that they have accomplished.

Ten miles

I did TEN miles this morning. Phew! Only three more until I am at half marathon length. The half marathon isn't actually until August 30th, so I have a long time to "train." Anyway, I did ten in one hour 56 minutes and 35 seconds. Next week is eleven. Hopefully I will live through it.

Evie's Birthday Cake

Last week, I made this cake for my neighbor's birthday. I was so tickled by how it turned out, I just had to share. The picture on the right is a bit blurry, but I wanted you all to see the "scalloped" sides. I also found a new technique of adding some light corn syrup to the frosting to make it real smooth. It worked out really well. I am
so pleased with the finished product.

Nine Point Five

O.k., I did it. I ran nine and a half miles. I did great
until about an hour and 25 minutes in to it and then my
knees started to hurt a little. I changed up my stride and that
seemed to help. Next week is 10 miles. I did today's run in one
hour, 48 minutes, and 15 seconds. Next week I will shoot for
2 hours. Thanks for the accountability.

D.A.R.E. Graduate

Garrett just graduated from
a nine week course in Drug and
Alcohol Resistance Education.
D.A.R.E. was a good experience
for him. He enjoyed the goofy jokes
that the police officer gave before the
class started. He learned how to resist
peer pressure and stand up for what is right.
Way to go, Garrett!

Happy Mother's Day

I have been blessed with three special mothers.
God saw to it that I was taken care of all around.

My mom, Kathy, adopted me at the age of 2 days old. She cared for me as I grew in to the woman that I am today. She saw to it that I was raised in a Christian home, and for that I am thankful. Mom is very giving and generous. She cares a lot for our well-being. Mom always made sure that my birthday was a special thing. I specifically remember a Cabbage Patch doll cake; my sixteenth birthday was a big deal with a disk jockey, a dance and a beautiful cake. I love you, Mom.

My mother-in-law, Sue, is a special blessing from God. She has welcomed us in to her heart and home. She is a great person to talk to and has a real heart for the Lord. She has a way of making a person feel at home. Whenever we are at her house, I just feel at rest and peaceful. It is a great place to be. She is generous, loving, and has a happy heart. I love you, Sue.

My birthmother, Sue, came in to my life for the second time, almost 17 years ago. She took care of me while I was in the womb and held me in her heart for the 17 years that we were apart. I am so thankful to her for the life that she gave me. She is a loving mom who gave me the best life she knew to. She also worked hard to give a wonderful home to my sister, Sonja, and my brother, John. She is generous, loving, and caring. I love you, Mom.

So, you see, God has blessed me three different ways! Thank you all for the love and advice that you have given me over the years.

The Middle Moffat

Alyssa, Nikki, and Kenlee all patiently waiting for Olivia's play to start. They ate strawberries, pound cake, and powdered sugar donut holes while they were waiting. They also had a contest to see who could drink their fruit juice fastest.

Alex, Garrett, Grandma Sue Davenport, Ashley, Grandma Kathy, and Grandpa Mike chit-chat while they wait for the play to start. They, too, enjoyed their desserts.
Olivia was in an acting class the past 6 weeks, the culmination of which was a play called "The Middle Moffat." Olivia had a lead role in the play. She was Sylvie Moffat and in the play within the play, she was Goldie Locks. I know it is hard to see her in the pictures, but she is the one in the blue dress with the huge blond hair. She did a great job. It was really fun to watch her. This week, she is going to try for a part in The Wizard of Oz at the same theater where she took these acting classes.

One cute story...I took Nikki and Kenlee to the bathroom at Mystique, the dinner theater where the play was. Mystique looks like a castle and is very elegant inside. Nikki said that when she grows up, she wants to have a house just like that and then she will roam it however she wants to because that is what people do in big houses like that!

What was I thinking?

O.k., I don't know what got in to my mind, but a few weeks ago, I thought I would "up" my run from 5 to 6 miles. Then, it was 6.25. The next thing I knew, I was researching all the information I could find regarding training for a half marathon! Last week, my long run was 7.75 miles. Today, 8.75!

Each week, I can't wait until the long run. It's like an addiction. About an hour in to it, I wonder, "Kristi, what are you doing?" So, I am letting you all know that I am training for a half marathon so that you can hold me accountable to add 1/2, to 1 whole mile to my long run each week. That way, I won't be able to quit.

My plan for next Friday is to run 9.5. I have until August, so I have plenty of time to "train." Yeah!
